Red Wings Select Nine Players on Second Day of 2023 NHL Entry Draft

Detroit Chooses Four Defensemen, Three Forwards, and Two Goaltenders

The Detroit Red Wings added nine players to their organization on the second day of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, selecting four defensemen, three forwards, and two goaltenders. The Red Wings' picks on Day 2 included:

Defensemen:

  • Jack Matier (1st round, 15th overall)
  • Ludwig Persson (2nd round, 45th overall)
  • Bryce Kindopp (3rd round, 75th overall)
  • Anton Olsson (7th round, 207th overall)

Forwards:

  • Anton Lekomtsev (2nd round, 58th overall)
  • Dylan Duke (4th round, 105th overall)
  • Reilly Pinchuk (6th round, 171st overall)

Goaltenders:

  • Michael Hrabal (4th round, 125th overall)
  • Tomáš Suchánek (6th round, 179th overall)

The Red Wings were looking to add depth to their prospect pool, and they did so with their nine selections on Day 2 of the draft. Matier, a defenseman from the USNTDP, is considered one of the best prospects in the draft, and he could be a future top-pairing defenseman for the Red Wings. Persson, Kindopp, and Olsson are all skilled defensemen who could also contribute at the NHL level.

Lekomtsev, Duke, and Pinchuk are all skilled forwards who could add some offensive firepower to the Red Wings' lineup. Lekomtsev is a speedy winger who can score goals, while Duke is a versatile centerman who can play both offense and defense. Pinchuk is a gritty winger who can forecheck and create scoring chances.

Hrabal and Suchánek are both talented goaltenders who could push for playing time in the NHL. Hrabal is a 6'5" netminder who has excellent size and athleticism, while Suchánek is a 6'3" goaltender who has quick reflexes and good puck-handling skills.

The Red Wings are hoping that their nine picks from the 2023 NHL Entry Draft can help them return to contention in the future. The Red Wings have missed the playoffs for the past six seasons, but they hope to build a young core that can lead them back to the postseason.
